Armes faring well in Kentucky

Former Grand Island standout Ann Armes was back in town for Christmas break. Armes, who was The Independent's girls athlete of the year for the 2006-07 school year, joined the Kentucky volleyball program last fall.

Armes, who redshirted this season, said things are going well at Kentucky. She is now training at middle blocker for coach Craig Skinner. Armes said Skinner, a former assistant at Nebraska, is "more awesome" than she ever imagined he would be.

Skinner got one huge recruit this year when Becky Pavan, a 6-4 middle blocker from Kitchener, Ontario, signed on to join the Wildcats. The Pavan name is certainly familiar to Husker fans. Becky is the sister of four-time first-team All-American Sarah who just finished her career at Nebraska.

Coach Skinner just told us today that we will be traveling home to play the Huskers this spring! Needless to say, I am PUMPED! Mark ya'lls (hehe) calenders- April 12th is the big day.
Things are going very well here in the bluegrass state.. the team has been waking up early and working hard in lifting and "speed school" I hope that everyone is keeping warm. See you soon!

P.S. I know this is a lot to ask.. but can the husker nation.. for one night make an exception and wear blue?
